Too Cool for School

Pool Party

Los Angeles, California- (BTT) For kids and teens in a hot weather climate, nothing is more refreshing on a hot summer’s day than a swimming pool. Not only is there no salt to get in your eyes, it’s private, can be accessed all the time, and you can swim AND snack, all at the same time. With this great pool deck scene, Katie (eilonwy77) has managed to fit in all of the feelings of summer into a beautiful little package. The curved wall, pool raft, multi-level deck, and great trees all come together to make this vibrant scene one of note

Batman’s other ride

Calin‘s Bat Rod is a nifty creation, but the presentation really makes it stand out. In addition to the appropriate brown vintage background, the lighting texture on the model (especially the roof) is gorgeous.

Thanks for the tip Ewok in Disguise!

Who says a castle has to be grey?

Because grey castles are so 2003.

I kid, I kid. But this little red number by Lukasz W (LL) really caught my attention. It’s simple, but avoids some typical castle-trappings like boring walls and such. I like the vibrant color, and the white makes everything “pop” just a little bit more.

Banksy

Hans Dendauw (Tigmon74) built this excellent pair of buildings for a VirtuaLUG collaboration at Bricks by the Bay 2012.

Replicating graffiti in LEGO is tough enough, but Hans has LEGO-ized one of the most recognizable designs by one of the most recognized graffiti artists on the planet.

The Banksy wall certainly caught my eye, but Hans’s corner building is the real artistic triumph.

Sail away to your new home aboard the NCP Colonial Fleet

Mike Yoder has his own corporate entity reminiscent of Black Mesa from the Half-Life universe and Weyland-Yutani from the Alien franchise. North Central Positronics is a shadowy, semi-military organization with heavily defended bases on earth and a full-fledged fleet in space. Mike’s latest addition includes a pair of cargo barges, a pilot ship, and several heavy fighters.

The Great Wall Made Small

Flickr user lisqr has built this wonderful microscale model of one of the most impressive architectural feats in mankind’s history, the Great Wall of China. While the real Great Wall was several thousand miles long, lisqr employs a nifty series of connected vignettes to capture the wall’s serpentine path.

Modern Architecture

Vee Building
Courtesy Vee Building by Brickapolis

Indianapolis, Indiana- (BTT) Apartments aren’t always blocky, boring, and repetitive. Sometimes, they’re freestanding and unique. This fine building falls right into that category. From the “Vee” rooftop, to the glass-encapsulated bottom floor, this has all the traits of a modern city building. Apparently, it’s not new enough to escape the touch of modern street art, or as the rest of us know it, graffiti. The large brick built street helps to draw the eye to the building, then it steadily progresses up to the skylight at the top, ending in a pleasing overall view.
