Jarek (Jerrec) used to be a very regular feature here but it’s a while since I remember noticing anything new from him. But it’s been well worth the wait for this amazingly detailed Syrena 104. I love the real cars and cannot believe how perfect Jarek’s version is.

Tunable, playable LEGO ukulele
Realising I’ve never owned a uke, I decided I’d try to make one. But instead of using wood, like any normal person, I decided to use LEGO bricks. Of course, there were some challenges: 1) Shape, 2) Strength, 3) Tuning, 4) Intonation
So, after all that, I ended up with what I like to call an alto ukulele – it is tuned to C-F-A-D (normal ukes are generally tuned to G-C-E-A). I also thought it needed a stand so I can display it on the mantle piece, you can see it poking out the bottom. And I think it really sounds OK, but you can judge for yourself: Puff the Magic Dragon
And for those who missed the link in the quote, here is Ross playing a well known song on his LEGO ukulele.
Incidentally, this is how you make a tuning peg out of LEGO. Clever, no?
Royal wedding
Even though we Americans threw off the shackles of monarchy more than 200 years ago, we still find something fascinating in the pomp of a royal event, like the wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton today tomorrow in London. Justin Ramsden made a name for himself with his Amy Winehouse sculpture last year, and even got a job as the youngest-ever Model Maker at Legoland Windsor as a result. His latest sculpture honors the wedding couple.
John-117
Master Chief is neither the most interesting nor my favorite character from the Halo universe, but he is lucky to have the honor of being sculpted in LEGO by Jack Marquez (Ewok in Disguise).
Though a bit foreshortened in this photo, the assault rifle is a nice build in its own right.
If I were a legovore . . .
. . . I would so eat this. This entry by Sven Junga for the Mocathalon contest is fantastic in and of itself, but the brick built scalloped edge plate, garnish and crustacean flesh extractor all enhance the awesomeness.
LEGO is greebly
As evidenced by this sculpture by Lukáš Šógor.
Spitfire Mk IX
This plane is just gorgeous. Ed Diment (Lego Monster) states that it’s a 1 in 20th scale, and he plans to add more. I can’t wait.
Lego Big Mac meal is healthy for you
With more bricks and fewer calories, who can resist? By Schfio Factory.
Thanks for the tip El Barto!
Reclaimed by nature
Several months after posting his house in the snow, Mike Doyle completed his second masterpiece: an abandoned Victorian house. I am once again blown away by the stark realism and beautiful deterioration conveyed by more than 50,000 well-arranged bricks. Check out more pictures and the builder’s thoughts on Mike’s blog.
“Underneath, it’s a hyperalloy combat chassis.”
This bust of the classic Terminator frame is incredibly detailed and wonderfully menacing. Martin Latta has done a most excellent job. While the actual Terminator is awesome, that base just makes it that much better and complements the build perfectly. This is one of those that I would like to own.
Many thanks to Tom Williamson for the heads up!
