Shop in the Orient!

BrickFanTown is at it again! Built by a group of Japanese AFOLs, BrickFanTown is thriving and now supports an “exotic” district. It features all sorts of small shops and alleyways from noodle shops to small kiosks under the awnings. The variations in colors and architecture is what it is all about, and that’s what I like best about these. They’re fun to look at, but they still maintain a realistic aura about them.
Very well done!
New Ironsides
This mecha doesn’t have quite as many guns as the USS Constitution did, but I’m sure it would carry as fearsome of a reputation. This is a job well done by kidthor. There’s a lot of great surface texture on both the body and the legs. I also love how well it balances on its tiny feet.
Abandoned museum
Many Cafe Corner style buildings begin to look the same after a while, but not this one by Barney Main (SlyOwl). I haven’t seen many dilapidated buildings, so it’s always refreshing to see something so old (as in run down). The bars on the windows are a great effect despite being simulated from tape. The mannequins inside are just creepy, and they probably come to life at night.
How many mini-figures can you fit into a Beach Scene?
The answer, clearly, is a lot. I Scream Clone’s goal was to build a fun scene to entertain his Series Two collectible mini-figures. I have to say he succeeded. I personally like the wave action going on there.
Thanks to Firas Abu-Jaber for the suggestion!
Boxy but in a good way
Chris Giddens (Fazoom) claims he made an ugly ship, but I like the ugliness of it. The ship has distinct sections indicated by texture and color and it reminds me of an ice cream sandwich. Mmm…
I’ll take the railgun version
Joe A. (Dablackcat) combines Bionicle and System parts in his Shamgar mecha that he brought to BrickFair. Inspired by the AMP suit from Avatar, it certainly has that rugged clunky feel. I love the presentation and the option for different weapon attachments.
From the unknown chasms of space
…comes my latest creation, a ship called Broken Regret. I strove for an ominous and organic looking craft by incorporating curves and spikes (best viewed on black). The result is something that looks much better in real life than on photos. This is due to the curves of the ship distorting our perception of its true shape and size (I had to do a lot of lens adjustments in Photoshop). Hopefully you’ll see what I mean when I post more pictures and a video in the upcoming days.
On another note, I want to mention that there are some incredible sellers on Bricklink who sent me last-minute parts to complete the ship at practically no cost. I’ve encountered many of you over the years, you know who you are, thank you.
Fice!
Aaron Amatnieks (akama1_lego) had a lot of transparent LEGO, a water pump and some light bricks lying around. This is the strangely mesmerising result. I particularly love ‘ice’ but they both look great animated.
Army men assemble!
When Lego released 7595 Army Men on Patrol, Alex Schranz (Orion Pax) saw it as his calling to build something with them. And built he did. This diorama features several cool green vehicles contrasted nicely with the dark tan base.
